LMPD promotes 29 officers

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – In a room filled with their loved ones and their superiors, 29 members of the Louisville Metro Police Department were recognized for their work by being promoted.

Twenty one officers were elevated to sergeant, seven to lieutenant and one to the department's command staff.

"[On my] very first day I was scared to death," said Major David Allen, the new commander of Administrative Services. “Going to night shift for the first-time and riding by myself. It’s pretty similar to today and I look my new task ahead.

In his new role, Allen said must make that his unit gives the officers what they need to do the job but that he provides the members of unit with the same thing.

Allen, a 12 year LMPD veteran and former commander of the Special Victims Unit, said the ceremony reminds officers to help make each other better and continue to grow to improve the department for the people that will follow them.

Mayor Greg Fischer shared that the officers are being promoted within a department with an 80 percent approval rate from its community.
