LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - On the 77th anniversary of the bombing at Pearl Harbor, Honor Flight Bluegrass announced its first flight for 2019.

The organization dedicated to honoring our veterans said their first flight will take off on May 28. All veterans are welcome aboard for the trip, which takes veterans to Washington, D.C. for the day.

Friday’s announcement was made at Mission BBQ off Shelbyville Road in front of veterans, some who have made the trip and some who have not.

Jeff Thoke with Honor Flight Bluegrass said they encourage veterans who have not experienced the trip to do so.

“It’s one of the best days of their lives, they say it time and time again," Thoke said. “Its one of the best experiences they’ve ever had. So we encourage anyone who wants to go on an honor flight to go. We’ve never had any regrets.”

In addition to the Honor Flight next May, special events are also planned for June 6, 2019, which is the 75th anniversary of D-Day.
