Local animal shelters reducing or eliminating adoption fees for the holidays
Each week, the Kentucky Humane Society is sharing photos of the adorable cats and dogs available for adoption.

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Several WAVE Country animal shelters are either reducing or eliminating adoption fees for dogs this holiday season.

At the Kentucky Humane Society, as part of the Homes for the Howl-idays” Adoption Special, fees for all adult dogs 40 pounds or over, will be $40, until Dec. 14.

Dogs part of the $40 special can be seen here. Adoptions will take place at the KHS East Campus, 1000 Lyndon Lane, and at KHS adoption centers at nine local Feeders Supply stores.

While adoption fees are reduced, the adoption process remains the same. Families will fill out an application and meet with an adoption counselor to ensure every pet finds the right home. All pets are spayed or neutered, micro-chipped and up-to-date on vaccinations. Jefferson County residents also pay $10.50 for pet licensing, and donations are gratefully accepted.

Louisville Metro Animal Services has reached maximum capacity. In order to make room for dogs, LMAS is waiving all redemption fees for pets currently at the LMAS shelter through December. This special includes fees for owners to pick up their pets who were brought in as strays. For more information on this deal, click here.

In Floyd County, the New Albany Floyd County Animal Shelter is having a Miracles on Market promotion. All animals adoption fees through December 22 will be waived. License fees will still apply if applicable. Every Holiday Hound and Festive Feline has been spayed/neutered, microchipped, is current on vaccinations and has been tested for heartworms or Felv/FIV.
