EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) - Sesame Street introduced a new Muppet named Lily and she is creating a lot of buzz.
Lily is the first homeless Muppet. The 7-year-old girl shares on the episode that her family no longer lives in their apartment and now they live with friends.
Sesame Street has had a recent history of introducing characters that more reflect kids lives today.
Last year, they introduced Julia, the first Muppet with Autism.
“[It’s] Gonna have an enormous impact on the raising awareness to children on homelessness there are hundreds and thousands of children that are homeless and experience those difficulties every single day,” explained Director of Commission of Homelessness Matt Hanka.
Sesame Street hopes by integrating these characters it will let children know they are not alone.
