LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Dozens of Louisville kids got an early Christmas gift on Friday night.
Metro Council President David James (D-District 6) hosted the Winter Wonderland Coat Giveaway at First Gethsemane Baptist Church.
Coats went to kids who have the greatest need from six different Jefferson County Public Schools. The children also got to visit with Santa Claus, and received a toy.
Now in its eighth year, James said the event keeps growing, highlighting needs in the community.
“The fact that we have more kids in need in our community, the fact that we have such a large homeless population in our community, says we have a lot of need in our community,” James said. “And I’m just really happy to be able to help and to have our friends here to help us out.”
Kosair Charities, Play Louisville and the UAW were just a few of the groups that pitched in to help.
