Community supporting KY family of four-year-old with terminal brain cancer

Community hosts Mandy's Magical Christmas for 4-year-old with terminal cancer

SHEPHERDSVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A WAVE Country family dealing with some serious heartbreak this season is trying to make the most of it.

Four-year-old Mandy was diagnosed with DIPG back in September.

It’s a terminal brain cancer, leaving her with around nine to 11 months to live -- and no chance of survival.

That’s why this year her family wanted to give her the best Christmas ever.

On Sunday, a celebration for Mandy in Shepherdsville included food, games, and a visit from Santa.

Family said it was all possible thanks to help from the community.

“The community is really showing us what community is and how good people really are," Mandy’s aunt, Jennifer Smith, said. "This time of year we have a lot of people doing a lot of different things and people are really coming together and realizing this could be anybody.”

Mandy’s family is collecting donations via her Facebook page, Miracles for Mandy.
