CHARLESTOWN, IN (WAVE) - Classmates of fallen Charlestown Sergeant Ben Bertram wanted to make sure his family felt and saw the love at every inch of his hometown.

Bertram was killed on Dec. 12 when he crashed into a tree during a high-speed chase with a suspect that went from Charlestown to Scott County.

A group of Charlestown High School alumni noticed there was one street missing the touch of the American flag ahead of Bertram’s funeral on Tuesday.

The city donated 230 flags on Monday night. His classmates ironed the flags that night and lined them along the street Tuesday morning. The group went down Market Street to make sure each section had a flag flying low.
