LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Just before the UofL-UK game at the KFC Yum! Center on Saturday, fans observed a moment of silence in honor of the LMPD detective who was killed on Christmas Eve.

Det. Deidre Mengedoht was killed while conducting a traffic stop on a busy stretch of Interstate 64 not far from the KFC Yum! Center on Monday. Roger Burdette, an MSD worker driving an MSD truck, allegedly slammed into the back of Mengedoht’s cruiser with her inside of it, killing her instantly. Arresting officers said Burdette admitted having taken multiple prescription drugs before the crash.

Players stood on the basketball court and fans rose from their seats for the moment of silence, which preceded the playing of the Star-Spangled Banner.

Mengedoht’s funeral service is scheduled for Monday.
