Pass the Cash: Single mom with cancer working through chemo gets support

SCOTTSBURG, IN (WAVE) - It was a group of coworkers whose nomination from wave3.com called us to Scottsburg, Indiana to help a single mom fight for her life and her family.

Jennifer, a nurse, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in October.

As a single mother, she’s not only fighting the disease, but she is fighting to keep her household going.

“She has three kids,” Jennifer’s coworker, Leslie, said. “Her youngest is a junior in high school."

Jennifer is working, despite going through chemo treatments. She had to use some sick days, but her coworkers said she is trying to stay at work to provide for her family.

When we showed up to pass the cash at her office, she was returning from her lunch break, which she spent taking a quick nap in her car.

As Jennifer quietly tried to walk around our cameras and get back to work, Leslie surprised her with the news -- and $550.

“We know you could use some help right now during all this you’re going through," Leslie told Jennifer. “We love you and we want to help you as much as we can.”

You cannot give it to family and you cannot keep it. You will only be notified if selected.
