SHEPHERDSVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear had good news to announce in Bullitt County Thursday: dozens of jobs are on the way, and the governor says he's confident the state is taking the right steps toward financial stability.

In the first of two scheduled appearances Thursday, Gov. Beshear announced at a 10:30 a.m. ribbon cutting ceremony that Sabert Corp., based out of New Jersey, has opened a central hub in Kentucky.

Sabert will manufacture plastic food containers at a 250,000 sq. ft. facility in Shepherdsville and employ about 70 people.

The governor says the facility brings Kentucky one step closer to economic recovery. "Every one of these kinds of things that we can do, every time that we create a new job in this state, it will help us," Beshear said.

It's possible the facility could expand in the future, and Bullitt County Chamber of Commerce President Lu Ann Moore is excited about that possibility. "Hopefully (this) will bring many, many more jobs, and we're excited about them not being minimum wage jobs. These are over the minimum wage."

The governor had more good news for Kentucky and Bullitt County during a second stop at Shepherdsville's city hall. The state is going to use some of Kentucky's federal stimulus money to fund the South Bullitt Waste Water Interceptor Project. This project will help provide infrastructure to carry waste water throughout various locations, including The Jim Beam Distillery.

Jim Beam Plant Engineering Manager Jim Beam Noe says this will help the company focus on other projects. "(The City of Shepherdsville) knew we had a desire to expand our presence here, and our on-site water treatment plant is not an attractive feature to visitors. So it was a natural combination of their project and ours to help the Bullitt County tourism community."

Gov. Beshear says improving the wastewater treatment will create new jobs and hopefully jump start many more jobs. "Every new job we do create, every person we put to work represents a family out here that can go to bed tonight feeling a little safer and a little more secure," Gov. Beshear said.

The South Bullitt Waste Water Interceptor Project is scheduled to be completed in 2010.
