WAVE 3 TV Louisville, KY | More restraining orders against LMPD officer; wife files for divorce

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The wife of an LMPD officer who says he beat her two weeks ago while on vacation in Florida is filing for divorce.
On Monday 43-year-old Sheri Fifer, her parents, and two sisters and their families filed for a second round of emergency protection orders against LMPD Lt. Jerald Fifer.
The Fifers have been married for nine years and have three children together.
Jerald Fifer is now charged with false imprisonment, domestic violence and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
According to court documents, Fifer allegedly drew a weapon, then hit, kicked, and strangled her as she was driving along a highway in Tampa, Florida.
On June 18, Fifer, 43, was arrested by the Florida Highway Patrol near Tampa. Sheri filed a domestic violence petition against him the next day, and made the following statement to police:
"On June18, we were driving down the highway on vacation, he struck me in the side of the head. I was driving. He pulled a .38 out and told me he was going to kill himself waving the gun around in the car. The gun ended up on the dashboard and I was able to knock it off onto the driver's side floorboard.
"Jerald then kicked me on the right side of my body. He grabbed me and strangled me. He was screaming...I pulled over and exited the vehicle and was running looking across the highway for someone to help me. He came back toward me...caught me and carried me back to the vehicle and threw me back into the truck. We were pulled over by police and he told me, 'Don't be stupid b.....'
"He was taken into custody. He's been abusive in the past...I am very much afraid of him."
Sheri Fifer filed for divorce on June 29. She is also filing restraining orders in Clark County where the two own a home together.
