Victim's friends and co-workers speak about the murder

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY(WAVE) -Former Kentucky lawmaker Steve Nunn remained at Bowling Green Medical Center Saturday night.  The former Republican State Rep. faces six wanton endangerment charges for brandishing a gun while at his father's gravesite.

Detectives found Nunn at the cemetery with self inflicted wounds hours after his ex-girlfriend, 29-year-old Amanda Ross was found dead outside her Lexington home.  Governor Steve Beshear said "It's a great, personal tragedy.  The loss of life of a young lady, Tara Ross's daughter, and it's just a tragedy for everybody, and my thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved here".

Lexington police have not made any arrests for Ross's murder.  Ross worked for the Department of Insurance for 2 years.  Her coworkers are shocked about what happened.

On Friday morning, Ross was expected to walk into work like any other day.  She was supposed to go to a meeting.  "We knew it was odd that Amanda wasn't there.  I had emailed her and asked if everything was okay," Ray Perry said.

Ross never made it to that meeting.  Just after 6:30 that morning, police found her shot to death outside her town home.  Perry said, "We all talked, and cried and prayed.  It's just tough.  Our thoughts and prayers are going out to her family.  We can only imagine what they're going through right now".

Investigators immediately searched for Ross's ex-fiancé -Steve Nunn.  They found him in Hart County, police say, with cuts on both of his wrists.  They're investigating if there is a connection.  Court records indicate Ross got a protective order against Nunn.  Earlier this year, he resigned from his job with the state after he was arrested on assault and criminal charges, involving Ross.

Ross's co-workers like the detectives handling her case- are searching for answers.  Meanwhile, they appreciate the 2 years, they had a chance to work with her.  "She picked up the job right away and she was one of those type people that I don't really ever remember having a frown on her face.  It was always a smile.  She was always laughing and she was a real joy," Perry said.

Once Nunn is released from Bowling Green Medical Center, Kentucky State Police, Trooper Charlier Swiney said he will be transferred to Hart County jail.  Lexington Detective Doug Pape said they don't have an update on Ross's murder investigation.  They don't expect to have any new information until Sunday -the earliest Monday.
