PINEVILLE, KY (AP) - As influenza continues to spread, a Kentucky public school system is stretching its scheduled fall break to try to limit transmission of the disease among students. Officials of the Bell County schools told WYMT-TV in Hazard they were closing schools two days early. What had been a planned Thursday and Friday closure will now begin Tuesday. Students won't return to classes until Monday, Oct. 19. School system financial officer Steve Silcox in Pineville said there seem to be a variety of symptoms reported in the schools.
