FRANKFORT, KY (WAVE) - A 15-year old boy collapsed and died Monday while trying out for a school basketball team in Franklin County.
According to a Franklin County Schools spokesperson, Waseeq Shahid, a freshman at Western Hills High School, went down while doing sprints around 4:05 p.m. Shahid collapsed in front of the coaches, who performed CPR until a Frankfort Fire and EMS crew arrived about four minutes later.
Shahid was taken to Frankfort Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Franklin County School officials say Shahid had a physical last week and passed. The school is conducting an investigating and will have crisis counselors available to students Tuesday.
Shahid will be buried Tuesday in Elizabethtown.
