LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Metro Police are investigating a double homicide in Louisville’s Portland neighborhood.
At 8:07 p.m. Wednesday, police were called to 2227 St. Xavier on a report of a shooting. Officers found two white males shot to death inside a car in an alley at the rear of the address. Both victims are said to be in their late teens to early 20’s.
Dwight Mitchell, a LMPD spokesperson, said witnesses called police after hearing gunshots in the neighborhood.
"We've had some issues in this area and obviously, tonight was very dangerous. We're trying to find the individual who committed this crime," Mitchell said.
The murders brought many who live in the neighborhood out to watch the scene as police investigated. Some wanted to know what happened, while others knew the victims. Kristina Rusher said knew both of the young men well.
"I really loved them a lot. It's really hurting me that they're gone right now," Rusher said.
Metro Police have not given information about what led to the shooting. Mitchell said there are no suspects or persons of interest in the case at this time.
Anyone with information is asked to call the LMPD Crime Tip Line at 574-LMPD (5673). All calls to the Crime Tip Line are anonymous.
