LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A southern Indiana man accused of killing a Scott County toddler pleaded not guilty to murder and battery Monday.

26-year-old Jason Hensley is charged with killing two-year old Jacob Lord of Austin, Indiana last week. An affidavit says Hensley is the boyfriend of Jacob’s mother.

Court records show Hensley was babysitting Jacob Tuesday, October 27. When the boy's mother came home, she found Jacob asleep on the floor.  Documents show when the mother tried to wake the boy, she was unable to do so and he was having trouble breathing.

Jacob was taken to Scott Memorial Hospital in Scottsburg by his mother and was eventually transferred to Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville where he died the next day. After an autopsy, the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office ruled the death a homicide, saying Jacob had suffered intentional, inflicted head injuries.

Hensley was arrested by Indiana State Police on October 30. He is expected back in court in January.
