LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A year and a half ago, a Louisville Metro EMS worker was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants and murder when she crashed the ambulance she was driving killing the patient inside. Prosecutors have since offered her a plea deal.

Tammy Brewer is facing several charges including murder, assault, and criminal mischief. In a pre-trial conference, prosecutor Tom Van De Rostyne said the Commonwealth had offered some sort of plea deal. So, far, Brewer has rejected it.

“If there is an offer that seems in the best interest in my client we will consider that,” said David Yates, Brewer’s attorney. “That has not been made yet.”

Brewer was in court November 18 for a pre-trial conference to iron out any issues. Both attorneys told the Judge McKay Chauvin they had discussed possible deals, but so far haven't had much luck and are leaning towards setting a trial date.

Brewer is accused of driving under the influence of intoxicants when she crashed the ambulance. The patient inside, Vickie Whobrey, was heading to the hospital for a persistent nose bleed. Whobrey died after the accident.

The Whobrey family was in the courtroom. Maggie Whobrey, Vickie’s daughter, says she will be there every step of the way.

“At first I wanted it over with, but I see they're not going to let it over with so now I'm ready for trial,” said Maggie Whobrey. “Let everyone see what really happened.”

Judge Chauvin is giving the parties until mid-December to try and work out a deal before setting a trial date.
