LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The family of three teens killed in a car crash just before Christmas 2008 have filed suit against Youth Alive.
Marc Claybrooks, his brothers Demar and Jamar, and Aaron Shields were killed December 18, 2008 when Louisville Metro Police say the driver of a stolen car they were in sped off after a traffic stop and crashed into a tree. The teens had just left a Youth Alive event.
Monday, a family spokesperson confirmed the Claybrooks family has filed a wrongful death suit against the former organization. The lawsuit claims Youth Alive members placed the teens in that stolen vehicle when they had been driven to the event at the Presbyterian Community Center in the Smoketown neighborhood in Youth Alive vans.
Youth Alive shut its doors in June 2009 because it lost its insurance. The organization is also facing two federal lawsuits filed by its insurance companies.
17-year old Herbert Lee has been charged as an adult with four counts of murder. He is due back in court in February 2010.
