LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – 50,000 people crowded Jefferson Square on Friday night to see the annual Kentuckiana tradition, 'Light up Louisville'. On a crisp night, the big crowd, which started to gather at 3 p.m., had to wait until 8:30 to see the big holiday light display. Until then, people listened to music, sang Christmas carols, ate food, and watched a parade.
This year for the first time, the Wendy's Winter Wonderland parade was moved back three hours to 6 p.m. Organizers changed the time because they wanted to follow the theme of Light up Louisville. To do that, they added lights on several floats.
Those in the crowd saw 80 different attractions, including bands, floats, and inflatable balloons. Many of the kids on hand said their favorite part of the parade was the lights. Two of them, Javey Brown and Bradley Henderson, described it as colorful. But no one could deny that one of the biggest attractions is Santa Claus, who stops by every year to turn on the lights.
The lights, which will be on every night until New Year's Eve, will perform a14-minute light show every hour from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. each night. The show is accompanied by music coming from Metro Hall.
