LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - On Saturday, the University of Louisville parted ways with U of L Head Football Coach Steve Kragthorpe Kragthorpe after three seasons. His career at U of L ended with a 15-and-21 record.

Many Cardinal fans agree with U of L's decision to fire Kragthorpe.

"It's probably the best bet for the team," said U of L Alumni, Nadia Davidenkoff. "I mean, he wasn't doing a good job with them."

U of L Senior Grayce Ruehlmann was not surprised either.

"This year I knew the way we played against UK that [it was] not a good sign, the way we weren't turning around," Ruehlmann said. "I knew it was going to be a long one."

Ruehlmann has been a Cards fan practically her entire life. During the Kragthorpe era, specifically last year, she said it was the first time she doubted her team's odds of getting far.

"[I] never wanted to cheer against them," Ruehlmann said. "I wanted them to win, but you never knew which way it was going to turn."

U of L Alumni Eric Grant also had his opinion about Kragthorpe.

"He's not a bad coach," Grant said. "But it's just not getting through to our players."

Kragthorpe ended his last season at U of L with 4 wins and 8 losses.

"He wasn't taking them to the next level, which is where they needed to go," Davidenkoff said.

Now the attention will turn to the search for the team's new head coach. "I feel like anybody at this point can help turn the program around for the better," Ruehlmann said.

Cardinal fan Eric Grant says he has a list of qualities he is looking for.

"I hope it's a coach that has a great personality," Grant said. "[I hope] he knows some tricks for the plays [and knows] the right calls to make," Grant said.
