TAYLORSVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Recovery efforts have begun this morning for a Fort Knox soldier reported missing on Taylorsville Lake.

Authorities tell WAVE 3 they are searching for 23 year old Anthony Carter from Syracuse, Indiana.  Officials say Carter jumped off a boat for a swim, disappeared underwater and never surfaced on Saturday afternoon.

Seven agencies responded to the call including Spencer County Fire and Rescue, the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Kentucky Department of Parks, Mount Washington Fire Department, Louisville Metro Police dive team and Spencer County EMS.

For five hours, divers combed Jacks Creek located off the main channel of Taylorsville Lake. Murky debris-filled water limited visibility according to Spencer Co. Sheriff's Deputy Gordon Miles.

"There's a lot of stumps in the area where he went down," Miles said.

Miles said interviews with witnesses revealed details about what happened on the water. Jacks Creek is described as a high traffic area for Memorial Day Weekend boaters according to Miles.

"23-year-old white male went in for a swim on a boat turned around, was headed back to the boat when he went down and never resurfaced," Miles said.

Recovery efforts are scheduled to resume at 8:30 a.m Sunday.

"We spoke to other individuals on the boat. They didn't know him real well," Miles said. "They were here for the holiday weekend."
