LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - At the end of June a well-known oil company will pull its brand from both Indiana and Kentucky. All of the Chevrons in Indiana are closing as well as 238 Chevrons and Texaco stations across the Commonwealth.

One former Chevron in the 3000 block of Poplar Level Road stripped its affiliation two weeks ago, literally pulling down its sign.

Joe Jones has owned the business for 28 years under several brands. affiliates. He says having a recognizable name brings in the customers.

"Stations like this will be hurt from Chevron leaving," said Jones.

His options include signing with another oil company, running it independently, or closing the pumps. One of his loyal customers said if the station stays open he will buy his gas there no matter the name.

"I'm not that concerned about Chevron leaving," said Roger Beat. He is just concerned about his local station and his friend Jones closing shop.

Other owners across town are also facing tough choices. One station in the 4200 block of Bardstown Road is closing its pumps because of the bad economy. The Chevron in the 2900 block of Hikes Lane will be out of service, but stay open as an independent station. In downtown a Chevron on East Broadway changing its affiliation to BP.

Jones agreed, despite the oil spill he's not against turning into BP either.

"Oh yeah BP's all right," said Jones.

Chevron is pulling out of 11 states, Washington DC and parts of Tennessee, which makes up about eight percent of its US sales. The company's PR Manager saying it's re-structuring to improve efficiency.

"A lot of our growth is primarily in the western U.S. where our manufacturing assets are primarily positioned, so this is why withdrew from some of the states in the eastern U.S.," said Gustavo Santoyo Chevron BP Manager.

The Chevron brand will be out of Kentucky and Indiana by the end of June.
