LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Members of a national union are launching a new campaign aimed at rebuilding Kentucky's infrastructure. The Laborers International Union of North America (LIUNA) rallied on August 11 near the Kennedy Bridge to launch a campaign they call "Build Kentucky 2010."
LIUNA want Congress and Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to increase federal investment in construction projects like the new Ohio River bridges.
"Not only bridges. We're talking about water resource, schools and other fundamentals. This effort, this message is aimed squarely at one person who's in a position to do something. That's Senator Mitch McConnell," said one speaker at the rally.
Congressman John Yarmuth and Greg Fischer, the democratic candidate for Louisville mayor, also attended the rally.
