FRANKFORT, KY (WAVE) - Some Kentucky lawmakers are strengthening the rights of hunters and fisherman in the Bluegrass.

State Rep. Leslie Combs (D-Pikeville) and House Speaker Greg Stumbo (D-Prestonsburg) are co-sponsoring a bill that would ensure that hunting and fishing could never be outlawed without a statewide vote of the people.

"That's a big step I think in the right direction," said Stumbo, "to help not only this generation of sportsmen, but the next. We have a wonderful heritage of sports in this state. Kentucky was and still is the happy hunting ground.

The bill is set to be considered during the 2011 regular session with a possible vote on the November ballot in 2012.
