Born 03/23/1953 in Butler, PA (30 miles north of Pittsburgh); weighed 9 lbs. 4 ounces; I'm the oldest of three; my middle name is Patrick.

My Family:
Married Cheryl Hoyt Zambroski on May 4, 2001—she’s a researcher/assistant professor at U of L School of Nursing—mom still lives in Butler, brother in eastern Pennsylvania; sister and her family in Austin, TX; dad passed in November 2002.

Education:
Bachelor's from the University of Pittsburgh; majored in English, non-fiction writing; minor in American History.

Where I Worked Before:
Started as a print journalist in Florida, Paducah, Pittsburgh and Louisville prior to coming to WAVE 3 in May; retired from the Pennsylvania Auditor General’s Office in 1992; honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran.

Favorite Book:
(fiction) “The Loved One” by Evelyn Waugh; (non-fiction) “Elvis” by Albert Goldman.

Favorite Movies:
Witness for the Prosecution (1957); all the Godfather films (I own them on DVD).

Watch Anytime TV:
NYPD Blue, followed by All in the Family and Twilight Zone (the old ones) tied for second.

Journalism Heroes:
UPI reporter Merriman Smith, who first reported shots hitting President Kennedy; KDKA (Pittsburgh) reporter Marie Torre, who defied a judge and went to jail rather than reveal the name of a source.

Other Heroes:
Anyone who steps up, stands up and speaks up for what's right, no matter the price. So I have a lot of heroes.

Best Day of My Life (so far):
May 4, 2001, around 10 a.m. in the Starks Building, the day I married Cheryl, because it was the clearest sign yet that I've done something right in my life.

What I Like Best About Louisville:
People never hold it against me that I wasn't born here; great highways—never any traffic jams; always a parking space downtown.
