(CINCINNATI, December 5th, 2003, 5 p.m.) -- Six Cincinnati police officers who were involved in the death of Nathaniel Jones may be back to work as early as Monday.
The officers were seen on a tape beating Jones with nightsticks, after he lunged at them outside a fast food restaurant.
The officers can return to work with the approval of the police chief and a department psychologist.
The Fraternal Order of Police says the officers have chosen not to talk to officials investigating the death. Police officials say officers involved in incidents such as the one preceding the death of Jones are warned that anything they say to investigators can be used against them in court.
The coroner ruled Jones' death a homicide, but says that does not mean the officers necessarily acted with excessive force.
