New Online Service Provides Access To Enacted Legislation

(FRANKFORT, Ky., February 26th, 2004, 12:30 p.m.) -- Secretary of State Trey Grayson has announced a new service that allows Kentucky’s citizens to have greater access and understanding of state government’s operations and the legislative process. 

All final versions of bills passed by the House of Representatives and Senate as presented to the governor will now be available to access online.

"This service will give citizens a greater opportunity to examine government and to become involved in the legislative process," Secretary Grayson stated.  "Open access to government is extremely important to the democratic process and this is just one of many steps that our office is planning to increase that access."

The announcement coincided with the signing of House Bill 108 by Governor Ernie Fletcher.  This bill was the first legislation to pass both chambers of the legislature this year.

All bills from the 2004 legislative session will be available online once they are received from the Governor’s Office. Grayson also stated that in the upcoming months his office plans to extend the service to include portions of the Governor’s Executive Journal.

Grayson acknowledged his desire to increase the presence of his office on the World Wide Web.   He remarked that with an increased e-government presence, his office serves as better stewards of taxpayer dollars by reducing waste and inefficiencies from government.

"Part of my promise to the citizens of Kentucky when I ran for this office was to increase government’s accessibility.  By providing more resources online, we provide Kentuckians from Pikeville to Paducah the same access to information as they would have if they were in the Capitol.”
