Nelson County's very own Kevin Harned is a graduate of Purdue University who began his career at WAVE 3 in June of 1998. An interest in weather as a child sparked a dream that continues to unfold today. As president of a 4-H Club he invited WAVE 3 meteorologist John Belski to come and speak to his group.
Over the years, he would periodically talk to John, seeking opinions and advice. Kevin continued to keep in contact with Belski through his college years at Purdue University and now the two work side-by-side each day.
Kevin is one of the youngest members of the American Meteorological Society to receive the AMS Television Broadcast Seal of Approval. He enjoys forecasting, but says there is nothing like witnessing the power of nature. From chasing tornadoes & hurricanes to covering floods and winter storms he enjoys the hands on approach.
Kevin's favorite weather is 70 degrees and sunny, but says he also enjoys a good thunderstorm. In his spare time, he likes to water ski and snow ski.
His forecasts can be heard each afternoon on 84 WHAS Radio with Terry Meiners and seen weeknights on WAVE 3 at 7.
