Dog's Leap For Food Starts Fire

(WINCHESTER, Ky.) -- Who can ever forget the image of a Saint Bernard with the little keg around his neck, off to save his master who is stranded in a snowdrift.

Probably Keith Powell.

It would be difficult for Keith to think of a heroic dog after what his mutt did. The dog started a fire that damaged the house.

It was late Monday night when the Winchester Fire Department responded to a fire call on Berry Court. According to the fire report, Powell's dog apparently jumped on the stove to eat food left in a skillet and in the process, flipped on a burner.

The report says kitchen cabinets surrounding the stove were heat damaged and the entire house received smoke damage. The fire was extinguished by the time firefighters arrived on the scene.
