Best Buy 'Geek Squad' Facility Means 550 Jobs For Bullitt County

(HILLVIEW, Ky.) -- Bullitt County will be the home of Best Buy's new Geek Squad City.

The computer technical support center will open late this summer and provide about 550 jobs by the end of the year. The jobs boast an average salary of $44,000.

Gov. Ernie Fletcher joined Best Buy officials to announce the plans Monday. Fletcher says UPS helped bring the Geek Squad because of the company's air cargo hub in Louisville.

Speculation was raised recently when the firm applied for and received state tax incentives. The application for tax credits listed 550 new jobs being forecast for the Hillview facility.

Those jobs would range in pay from $9.50-$31.25 per hour with an annual payroll of $24 million.

Best Buy plans to offer a two-day turnaround for many computer repairs. The company says computer repairs will still be available in stores. But computers requiring parts or expertise that a store doesn't have will be shipped to the center.
