State Rejects Lone Bid For Kennedy Bridge Painting

(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) -- It'll be a little longer before a crew starts painting Kennedy Bridge that connects Louisville and southern Indiana.

The state Transportation Cabinet has rejected the only bid to carry out the project on Interstate 65 and is searching for more bidders.

A cabinet spokesman says its important to find a qualified company so the job is completed successfully.

Michigan-based Atsalis Brothers Painting Company didn't win the bid because of a technical problem in how the bid was submitted.

The previous company hired to paint the rusting bridge was fired.

Now officials hope to look at a new round of bids starting July 21st.

The painting project is in its seventh year, but state officials say they still hope to complete the project by November 2007.
