(LEXINGTON) -- A school bus driver made a disturbing discovery outside a Mercer County elementary school Tuesday: two little girls who had been locked inside their mother's hot car for several hours.
Outside temperatures hovered around 80 degrees Tuesday. Police say the children, both girls, had been in the car all day while their mother taught first graders inside the school.
Police broke one of the car's windows to get the children out.
The children were taken to a local hospital, treated and released. The teacher has been suspended without pay while an investigation continues.
