One dies in crash involving speeding car

Updated:

LOUISVILLE (WAVE) -- An early afternoon crash on Taylor Boulevard has left one person dead and police say the driver was traveling at high speeds moments before.

Around 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, an LMPD officer with the mounted unit saw a BMW speeding on the Watterson Expressway. Police clocked the car traveling at 95 miles per hour.

When police tried to pull the car over, they say the driver got off at the Third Street exit, looped around, got back on the Watterson at Southern Parkway and exited on Taylor Boulevard.

As the car was heading north on Taylor, it was hit broadside by another vehicle at the intersection of Taylor and Berry Boulevards.

The female passenger died from her injuries at University Hospital. The driver of the BMW and the driver of the other vehicle were both taken to the hospital for treatment.

Metro Police say the driver of the BMW, identified as 31 year old Gabriel Dion Nelson of Louisville, was already wanted on several outstanding warrants which include assault and terroristic threatening. Police say he could face charges once he is released from the hospital.
