LOUISVILLE (WAVE) -- Residents in one Louisville neighborhood are concerned after some loose mail was found lying in the street. Bundled mail was found Wednesday night at 7th and Oak, and more was found at 12th and Oak. WAVE 3's Elizabeth Donatelli investigates.
It could have been a big deal if the letters and packages fell into the wrong hands because there is no telling what was inside, but do know they come from area businesses.
An estimated 8000 pieces scattered along the streets of downtown Louisville. Our crews tracked it to 7th and Oak as well as 12th and Oak.
Technically those pieces were not yet mail. A private courier services, who's name has not been released, picked-up the letters and packages at businesses throughout the city, but never made it to the post office.
Four postal service employees retrieved the envelopes and packages around 9 Wednesday evening, which took one to two hours.
"We bought it back in, processed it through our normal system and then went back out this morning just to make sure we had everything picked up," Louisville Post Mater Steve Gregory.
LMPD officers guarded the letters until postal service employees collected it. The Post Master says he believes they found everything, but are continuing to investigate what happened.
If you think any of your mail may have been lost, you're asked to call the Consumer Affairs Office at 502-473-4220.
