Lawyers Push For Release Of Dishon Murder Suspect

(SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky., August 7th, 2002, 10:30 a.m.) -- Attorneys for the man charged with killing Jessica Dishon want him released from jail.

David "Bucky" Brooks has been behind bars for more than a year-and-a-half. His lawyers asked a judge for a bond hearing on Monday.

Brooks, 43, was arrested and charged in Jessica's death after a grand jury indicted him on Jan. 18, 2001. He is charged with murder, kidnapping, tampering with physical evidence and complicity.

His brother, Joseph Brooks, 37, also was arrested and charged with tampering with physical evidence and complicity in Jessica's death.

The Brooks were neighbors of the Dishons.

Jessica Dishon, 17, disappeared from her home on Sept. 10, 1999. Her body was found about seven miles away on Sept. 27, 1999. She had been beaten and strangled.

The Dishons and the Brooks are neighbors.

Late last week, the judge postponed Brooks' trial indefinitely. It had been scheduled to start next Monday.

Prosecutors and defense attorneys asked Waller for the postponement because they said they need time to investigate a videotaped interview of a Jason Krages, 24, a friend of Jessica's. Krages told police that Dishon was at a gathering with two men in a black Camaro the night before she disappeared.
