Jobina Fortson joined the WAVE 3 News team in September 2016. Jobina most recently was a reporter for WMDT in Salisbury, Maryland, where she covered several major stories, including the Baltimore riots following the death of Freddie Gray. Jobina hails from Stone Mountain, Georgia, a suburban area just outside Atlanta. She loves all things Atlanta, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. A graduate of Howard University, Jobina holds a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism with a minor in political science. Jobina got her start in journalism writing for her high school newspaper. She has a true passion for storytelling. She’s always looking for new ideas.
The conversation over widening achievement gaps within some Jefferson County Public School, particularly involving students of color, has been widely discussed. Recent reports have shown that the scores in English and reading below the state average. However, there's a sound of success coming from a class inside one elementary school.
