LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - For over a year, WAVE 3 viewer Corky Griffin has been working to get an eyesore out of her Louisville neighborhood. After getting nowhere with local leaders, she turned to the WAVE 3 Troubleshooter to get results.
Griffin sent the Troubleshooter team an email about the eyesore outside her windows. She said there were several sewage filled, asbestos filled, garbage filled, abandoned homes on Westport Circle off of Westport Road. Those homes were right behind her condominium. She also said the grass was at least four feet high.
"Who wants to look out on their patio and see a dump? It's a serious health hazard. I can't sit outside, the mosquitoes are so bad," Griffin said.
Griffin told WAVE 3 that she called the Louisville Metro Health Department, the Mayor of Rolling Hills and her Metro Council representative. She said the Troubleshooter was her last resort.
"I am hoping this does end what I affectionately call the dump," said Griffin.
Our investigation revealed the property was not the city of Louisville's responsibility. It is a part of Icon Properties, LLC. Bill Hysinger, a partner of Icon Properties, told us the project has been on again off again because of the depressed economy. After we called, Hysinger said the lot was being mowed. Even though it was a real estate developer's responsibility, Icon would step up and be good neighbors.
As for the buildings, Hysinger said, "We expect development will be started, all the old buildings will be torn down, within the next 30 days."
Hysinger also said the asbestos has been removed from all of the buildings and the buildings have been donated to the Worthington Fire Department for training purposes.
