Inmates to face charges in KY. prison riot

Posted: Updated:

LEXINGTON, KY. (AP) - A Kentucky prosecutor says that more than 100 inmates will be criminally charged for their role in an August 21 riot.

The riot at Northpoint Training Center near Danville left buildings destroyed by fire and inmates and corrections officers suffered minor injuries.

Richie Bottoms, the commonwealth's attorney for Boyle and Mercer counties, told The Lexington Herald-Leader that he didn't expect the cases to be heard by a grand jury for a few months. Department of Corrections Commissioner LaDonna Thompson also told state lawmakers that some inmates will be disciplined within the prison system.
