LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Local businessman Greg Fischer is now officially in the running to be the next Mayor of Louisville after signing the proper documents Wednesday morning.

Nov. 4 was the first day candidates could register for the may 2010 Democratic primary. Fischer, who sites a sense of urgency as one of his campaign values, says it was important to be the first candidate to sign the official paperwork.

"I think voters deserve to know that we're planful, we're proactive, we look ahead," Fischer said. "And this is just another example of doing that so we can get on to the real business and that's helping the people in Jefferson County."

A 1976 graduate of Trinity High School, Fischer will be running against other mayoral Democratic hopefuls, including Metro Council President David Tandy and political newcomer Connie Marshall.
