LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Patients at Veterans Hospital got a surprise visit Monday morning: Louisville Metro Mayor Jerry Abrasion and Kentucky Congressman John Yarmuth took the time to thank the veterans for the many sacrifices they've made over the years.
The two men shook hands and listened to patients' concerns.
Abramson says it was important for the veterans to know the country is still behind them.
"There are fewer and fewer Americans who are serving than ever before," Abramson said. "As a result, I have this fear that a lot of people have forgotten what the guys and gals who step up and take the oath and go into the military are doing for this country."
The VA was one of many stops on the Abramson's schedule Monday. He was also scheduled to attend other events hosted by VFW and American Legion posts in honor of veterans.
Veterans Day is Wednesday, Nov. 11.
