Ag commissioner urges thanks for farmers

Posted: Updated:

FRANKFORT, KY (AP) - Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer is urging Kentuckians to show their gratitude for the farmers who fill the nation's fridges.

Farmer also offered his own words of thanks, saying it's especially appropriate during a time of year known for bountiful meals.

Kentucky farmers produced a record $4.7 billion worth of crops and livestock in 2008, contributing significantly to the nation's agricultural production that he called the most abundant and affordable food supply in the world.
