
SCOTTSBURG, IN (WAVE) - The southbound lanes of Interstate 65 in southern Scott County, Indiana have reopened after human remains were found along the interstate.
Around 6:30 p.m. Thursday, deputies from the Scott County Sheriff's Department were checking an abandoned car at the Lake Road overpass (County Road 150 South) near the interstate overpass. The deputies have found human remains on and near I-65 and called Indiana State Police to handle the investigation.
Investigators believe the person was hit sometime late Wednesday night. ISP is asking anyone who may have been in the area of mile marker 28.5 near Scottsburg between 11 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. Thursday to give them a call.
"If saw anybody involved in a crash what you thought was a crash of if you were involved in an accident, but didn't know what you hit, thought it was an animal, call us at the Indiana State Police post give us any information you may have," said Sgt. Jerry Goodin of the ISP Sellersburg post.
Southbound traffic was shut down over 5 hours while ISP troopers investigated the scene. The interstate was reopened after just after midnight Friday.
