LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The trial of a Bullitt County man accused of multiple counts of rape, sodomy and incest got underway Tuesday. In testimony, Perry Bennington's first alleged victim recounted years of abuse.
The woman who testified Tuesday claimed Bennington sexually assaulted her for more than 15 years, starting when she was six years old.
"For a couple years, he actually had me convinced that all daddies do it to keep their daughter's from becoming whores. It became almost a game," she said.
Eight years into the abuse, when she turned 14, the alleged victim says it got worse.
"That all I had to do was lie there, but I couldn't stop my body from reacting to what he was doing to me sexually. So he told me that I liked it even though I cried every time he did it," the alleged victim testified.
The woman says the alleged abuse stopped when she was 22, but she could not find the strength to report it until years later.
"A lot of guilt and shame," the woman said. "It took me a really long time to realize what Perry did wasn't my fault that I wasn't a bad person."
This case could wrap up Wednesday. Bennington has already accepted a plea deal with one victim.
