LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A teenager who police say crashed a stolen car killing four Pleasure Ridge Park High school students will stand trial as an adult.
Herbert Lee, who was 16 at the time of the crash, is now charged with four counts of murder. He's also charged with fleeing and evading police, operating without a license, reckless driving and receiving stolen property. Aaron Shields, and brothers Demar, Jemar and Marc Claybrooks died in that crash.
Police say Lee was driving a stolen car on Dec. 18, 2008 when he was spotted by an LMPD officer driving in the Smoketown neighborhood. After calling for backup, police pulled Lee's car over on South First Street, but Lee sped off as officers approached the car.
The car was found crashed a short time later after hitting a tree on South First, just past Hill Street. The crash killed the four teenagers.
Lee was driving the Claybrooks brothers and Shields from a Youth Alive event at the Presbyterian Community Center, located at 731 South Hancock Street.
The four teens had been picked up and taken to the event by a van from Youth Alive, but there wasn't enough room in it after the event to take the boys home.
According to a preliminary report by an outside investigator hired by Youth Alive, the boys were told to get into Lee's car and he would take them home.
