WINGO, Ky. (AP) - A western Kentucky elementary school has gone green.
Wingo Elementary School received state certification as a Kentucky Green & Healthy School. The Paducah Sun reports that it is 1 of a small number of schools in the state to receive the recognition.
The Kentucky Environmental Education Council sponsors the program. The council's Web site says schools must complete questionnaires and implement improvement plans in nine areas: energy, health and safety, solid waste, green spaces, indoor air quality, transportation, hazardous chemicals, instructional leadership and water.
