LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - An overturned semi on an interstate ramp is going to cause problems for the afternoon commute.
At 1:48 p.m., MetroSafe Communication received a call that a semi had overturned on the ramp from I-64 east to I-65 north. LMPD spokesperson Alicia Smiley tells WAVE 3 the truck, which was carrying 40,000 pounds of charcoal, appears to have been going too fast for the curve. Smiley says the truck slid off the ramp and became entangled in the guardrail.
The driver of the rig was ejected from the cab and was found 15 feet away from the semi. He was taken to University Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Smiley says the semi is off the roadway and the ramp, which leads to the Kennedy Bridge, is still open. LMPD will close the ramp beginning at 6:30 p.m. to allow crews to unload and remove the semi. The ramp is expected to be closed until 9 p.m.
