LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - As requested by the LMPD sex crimes unit, the Commonwealth Attorney's office has reviewed the complaint filed by Karen Sypher against UofL basketball coach Rick Pitino and decided not to send it to a grand jury.

Stengel's office issued the following statement concerning its findings on the videotaped complaint:

"David Stengel, Commonwealth's Attorney for the 30th Judicial Circuit, has reviewed the videotaped complaint made by Karen Sypher to the Sex Offenses Unit of the Louisville Metro Police Department and has found it void of credibility and lacking any supporting evidence.

Earlier in the day, UofL Athletic Director Tom Jurich had this to say about Sypher's allegations and the LMPD's investigation:

"Coach Pitino has denied the accusations made against him. In our eyes, he did not need to take a polygraph exam because we believe him. However, we're glad he did so he could refute the allegations, recognizing that they come from a person who is facing federal charges which include not being truthful.

"We will closely monitor the matter as it is handed through the legal system and will stand by Coach Pitino and his family during the process."

Sypher was indicted in April on charges of extortion and lying to the FBI.

The LMPD Sex Crimes Squad  will take into consideration the recommendation made by the Commonwealth Attorney and decide whether or not to continue with their investigation. The lead investigator on the case is out of town until Thursday. A decision will be made upon his return.
