LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Michael "Eddy" Wilson, a Butler Traditional High School physical education teacher and girls basketball coach, has been fired for having an inappropriate relationship with a female student.

JCPS officials tell WAVE 3 that in their investigation, they found that Wilson took the unidentified female student on a ski trip to Paoli Peaks and exchanged more than 555 text messages and calls with her totaling more than 5,000 minutes between December 2008 and April 2009. The calls included dozens that occurred after midnight.

"We did, after reviewing records and evidence, confirm there was indeed an improper relationship with a student. I know everyone is asking if that means was there a sexual relationship. We were not able to verify that, but there was indeed based on phone records an inappropriate relationship underway between the two of them," said Lauren Roberts, JCPS spokesperson.

Roberts said that JCPS did notify Child Protective Services of this issue. The school district also says Wilson was taking $3.00 from PE students so they would not have to run in gym class and to get a better grade.

Wilson had been a teacher at Butler since 2003 and was the coach when the girls basketball team won the state high school basketball championship in 2008. In a statement given by Wilson to JCPS, he said that he was just being a mentor to that student.
