Father of injured KY. newborn wants wolf-dog back

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A central Kentucky father whose 3-day-old baby was dragged from its crib by the family's wolf-dog hybrid has changed his mind and wants the animal back.

But Jessamine County Attorney Brian Goettl says he wants a judge to approve the return of Dakota to Michael Smith's family. Goettl told the Lexington Herald-Leader he's concerned about the child's safety.

Chief Sheriff's Deputy Allen Peel says a Jessamine County grand jury declined to indict Michael and Chrissie Smith on Friday. Peel says there was no criminal intent, and because there's no indictment, no charges will be filed.

Alexander James "A.J." Smith suffered a cracked skull, cracked ribs, a collapsed lung and a partially collapsed lung and was in critical condition for several days after the dog carried him outdoors. He has since returned home.
