Officials 'confident' blaze began at grocery store

LEXINGTON, KY (AP) - Investigators looking into the cause of a fire that blazed through an eastern Kentucky city's downtown are meeting to confirm its origin.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reports investigators are expected to confirm on Monday that the fire started at Jack's IGA grocery store.

George Huffman, a spokesman for the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, says authorities are "confident" a mechanical or electrical fire in the refrigerator compressor ignited the blaze that devastated three businesses.

Rose Bros. department store and the Beattyville Enterprise were also destroyed in last week's fire.

Beattyville is about 75 miles southeast of Lexington.
